Longevity Sata Andagi Okinawan Doughnuts Recipe

The Sata Andagi Okinawan doughnut is a famous dessert native to Okinawa and can be found almost everywhere in Okinawa.  These ball-shaped doughnuts are thick, brown and crispy on the outside and light and cake-like on the inside.  It is very healthy as it is low fat, low saturated fat and low sodium.

 

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs

  • 2 cups flour

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 3/8 cup milk

  • 3/8 tsp vanilla

  • 1 3/4 tbsp baking powder

  • 1/8 tsp salt

  • Salad oil

Method

  1. Place eggs, vanilla and milk into a bowl and beat thoroughly

  2. Take a sieve and sift flour, baking powder, sugar and salt onto the egg mixture.  Stir well until all the dry ingredients are moistened and you have a smooth dough.

  3. Pour salad oil into a frying pan and heat up oil to 350F.  Scoop up teaspoonfuls of dough and drop into the hot oil.  Fry till golden brown or doughnuts floats up to the surface.

  4. Line a plate with paper towels to absorb the oil from the doughnuts.  Remove doughnuts from oil and place on plate.  Serve hot.

  5. Makes 2 dozen doughnuts
