High-Fiber Whole Wheat Popovers Recipe

This whole wheat popovers recipe is very easy to prepare and really healthy as it uses whole wheat flour which is full of high fiber.  It makes for an ideal healthy breakfast meal which is both low-fat and high-fiber and goes very well with either soups or salads during lunch or dinner.




1 cup milk either skim, low-fat or non-fat

1 cup whole wheat flour

1 tsp brown sugar

1 tbsp butter

1/2 tsp of dried thyme leaves

1/4 tsp salt

1 egg

2 egg whites

Non-stick Vegetable Oil Spray



  1. Place butter and thyme into a small saucepan, heat up until mixture bubbles.  Turn off the heat and let it stand.

  2. Beat eggs in a small bowl using a fork and then let it stand at room temperature for 1 hour before using

  3. Put whole wheat flour, brown sugar and salt into a medium-size bowl and mix well using a spoon.

  4. Add in milk and butter thyme mixture and beat the batter until smooth

  5. Pour the eggs into the flour mixture and fold in gently

  6. Take the non-stick vegetable oil spray and spray onto muffin pan.

  7. Stir batter and fill up the muffin cups with batter until it is 3/4 full

  8. Place the muffin pan in a cold oven then turn on the oven to 425F.  Bake for about 35 mins

  9. Use either a sharp knife or a straight pin to gently pierce the side of each popover to allow the steam to escape

  10. Reduce the oven to 350F and bake for another 10 mins or more or until golden brown

  11. Remove the popovers from the oven and serve.
